Queens to Brooklyn: Bodega Cats Reign Supreme in NYC's Corner Store Kingdom

Hey, NYC bodega-loving folks! As someone who grew up in Queens, I've got to talk about one of the city's most charming features: bodega cats. For those who aren't familiar, a bodega is a New York City convenience store with a deli counter where you can grab delicious sandwiches and subs at great prices. During my school days, I'd stop by the local bodega, pick up a sandwich, give the resident cat a friendly pet, and head on my way. Just thinking about it brings back such wonderful memories.

Over time, bodega cats have evolved beyond their original role as mousers. They bring warmth and personality to these stores, and many customers truly cherish their presence. Some of these cats have even become neighborhood celebrities, with people stopping by specifically to visit their favorite feline friend. While cats' natural hunting abilities still help keep rodents away (a huge plus for store owners), they've become an essential part of the bodega experience.   • I really appreciate this cultural phenomenon. The bodega cats always make my visits to the city that much more enjoyable. But these days I'm not always in NYC, luckily there's a whole Twitter account (@Bodegacats_ ) dedicated to chronicling all the beautiful cats who spend their days lounging around in convenience stores all over the world.
